History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History

Our History

In July of 1986, Doug Hamilton and Dick Birk, as partners, built a new funeral facility in Marshall, Minnesota, and Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home became a reality. Doug was operating manager/partner from the start.  In 2003, Doug purchased the business and became sole owner. Shortly thereafter, the firm name was changed to Hamilton Funeral Home.

Hamilton Funeral Home welcomed a second director, David Sprik, to the staff in 2006.  In July of 2020, David and Elly (now as owners) welcomed Emily Rethlake, licensed funeral director to the staff.

We are also blessed to have Lee Raske, Jim VanHyfte, Jody Gladis, and Jennifer VanKeulen also on our our team to help on services and with other non-licensed work.  Funeral Intern, Claudia Lensing, now regularly assists with other events and in the office.

David, Elly, and our staff will continue offering Marshall and the surrounding communities funeral service with integrity. We promise compassionate, dignified, and professional funeral care to each family we serve for years to come.
